Experiencing dance through creative coding and web design

Danzafono is an interactive digital experience inspired by a performance of the same name, crafted by dancer Salud López. In the original performance, the audience selects a word from a list of 10 and reads it aloud. Each word is linked to a specific dance movement that the dancer executes upon its pronunciation. The audience has control over the rhythm, frequency, and sequence of the dance.

Transitioning to the digital realm, Danzafono 3.0 brings the performance to the screen. The website employs creative coding and kinetic typography to set a digital stage for the audience. This time, it’s the machine that performs the dance based on the words, rhythm, and sequence chosen by the participants.

Through a collaboration with creative coding artist Andre Burnier, we delved into a realm of exploration encompassing various dynamics, sizes, speeds, rotations, and more, crafting a digital dance that resonates with the original performance. Danzafono 3.0 stands as a testament to this exploration, offering a platform where technology and human expression converge
